Ancient China
My class watched a video on ancient China. China has survived for 4000 years. China started during a time called the Warring States Period. One state, the Qin, had a goal to unite all seven warring states into one unified China. Eventually, all of China fell to the Qin. The Qin achieved this because they had changed their battle strategy to something better, and they had mastered the horse. In 256 BCE, Li Bing created theDujiangyan Irrigation System. This irrigation system harnessed the power of the Ming River to water China’s crops. In 221 BCE, Ying Zheng became unified China’s first emperor. He then changed his name to ShiHuangdi, meaning first emperor. Huangdi ordered a grand tomb to be built for himself. Near his tomb, a terracotta army was found, guarding the tomb. The peasants overthrew him to create the Han dynasty. During the Han dynasty, there were an estimated 50,000,000 people in China. The Sui dynasty was founded by Yang Di 300 years after the Han dynasty. Yang Di created the Grand Canal, connecting the Yellow River with theYangze River. In CE 618, peasants overthrew the Sui dynasty. The Manchus then quickly seized power. After overthrowing the Manchus, modern Communist China emerged.
